My guess is that it becomes even more important that you don't use a 5C charge rate when charging a questionable inferior cheap pack or a misused/damaged pack. I suppose one could say that when balancing during the final stage of a 5C charge rate the actual cell balancing from 4.0v to 4.2v is faster than when balance charging at a 1C charge rate from 4.0v to 4.2v. Most balancing is relatively speaking, “slow balancing” and we all think you meant to say slow balance charging (1/2C or less) or sometimes referred to as trickle charging.

It has been said it can cause excess lithum plating which may cause the battery to become more hazardious.Ĭan anybody comment on whether there are any advantages or not to allowing the battery an extended period of "slow balancing?” To the best of my knowledge there is no official trickle rate for LiPolys but some experts recomend against it. Some chargers trying to achive balance with not so great cells spend a lot more time in the CV stage and often at a reduced charge rate trying to let the balancing circuit play catch up. If you charge at 1/2 C then the normal C/10 is in effect half of the normal 1C charge's rates C/10.ġ000 at 1C is 1A and Standard C/10 is 100 mA (1/10 A)ġ000 as 1/2C is 500 mA and C/10 is 50 mA. Some charge at less than 1C especially when charging in parallel.

IChargers have the trickle (down to 40 mA rate) option, Hyperions trickle until stop is pushed, FMA Power Labs have C/20 as a Preset Accurate Charge which is 1/2 of the Standard C/10. I am not sure how one defines most or in the case of LiPoly or what most consider a trickle charge. CC stage is 1A until 4.2 is reached then rate tapers to maintain this 4.2 until charge rate drops to 1/10 of set C which is 1A /10=.

One has trickle balance whic does not stop until rate drops below 40 mA and one line of chargers does not stop trickle / maintaining trickle until stop button is pressed.Ĭharge rate set at 1 Amp. Some terminate the charge when charge rate drops to 1/10 of set charge rate during the CV stage ,some when it drops to 1/20 ,some at 1/3,or 1/5 or 1/20 or even lower. They all use CC / CV but some balance during all of the charge ,some start balancing at 3.7 ,3.85, 4.0 4.1 or even at start of CV stage which is 4.2 volts per cell. plus if you have more to charge or are waiting to fly.Īll Lipoys chargers do not work exactly the same. No harm however if you are charging to 4.2 per cell and all of the cells are in the range of 4.17 to 4.20 and the charge rate has dropped down to 1/10 of the set charge rate then there is nothing really being gained waiting another 10 min.
